Summary of Responsibilities

This position is responsible for facility design safety basis activities with a focus on criticality safety analyses. Works in the area of Engineering and Integrated Safety Analysis. Interfaces with employees and managers at all levels of the organization. Additionally, provides engineering support in terms of calculations, walkdowns, and general configuration management control as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or equivalent

  • 2+ years of direct work experience with 2+ years at a nuclear facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a training program in the physics of criticality in associated safety practices (ANSI/ANS 8.26)

  • Experience performing chemical dose consequence analyses

  • A Master’s Degree or PhD from an accredited college or university in Physics, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License obtained by accredited examination.

  • 5 or more years of related work experience: of which 2 years’ experience is in a nuclear facility.

  • 2+ Years of experience at a Part 70 licensee

Job Details

  • Work Location: Eunice, NM

  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule with minimal night/weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.

  • Travel Required: 10% of the time or less as required

  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required

  • Emergency Response Requirements: Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duty may be required; including being on-call (24/7) during your designated team duty week.

  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. General Office, Plant Production Areas. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

Essential Skills

  • Criticality Safety, Chemical Dose Consequence and/or integrated safety analysis experience.

  • Experience in a 10 CFR part 70 facility.

  • Monte Carlo Computer code experience (MCNP or MONK preferred) for nuclear engineer candidates.

  • RASCAL, ALOHA or similar computer code experience preferred for other disciplines.

  • Must be able to propose and implement changes for the facility.

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for independently performing analysis and design activities in support of facility operations and future projects.

  • Performs nuclear criticality safety evaluations and analyses utilizing modelling software.

  • Performs dose and shielding calculations.

  • Performs independent design review of evaluations and analyses, including verification of assumptions and the adequacy of calculations.

  • Ensures that nuclear criticality safety limits, assumptions and requirements are correctly implemented in operating procedures.

  • Performs independent design reviews of calculations, nuclear criticality safety evaluations and analyses and provides final approval (release) of nuclear criticality safety technical documentation.

  • Establishes and maintains effective nuclear criticality safety engineering standards within the regulatory requirements of the NRC and within the Urenco USA design license basis documents.

  • Qualifies and performs chemical dose consequence calculations.

Compensation starting at: $98,761 - $146,169 / year and up dependent on candidate.
