Nuclear Energy Institute Visits UUSA
24 February 2023
On Wednesday, February 22 UUSA hosted visitors from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) for a site tour.
As a member-based policy organization with a mission to advocate for nuclear energy in the United States, NEI promotes nuclear technology by helping the industry preserve existing nuclear reactors across the country, push for smarter regulations, build new, next -generation reactors, and compete in the global energy market. The organization has hundreds of members— including nuclear power plants, reactor designers, fuel suppliers, research laboratories, and more—who work alongside each other to develop policy on key legislative and regulatory issues facing our industry. UUSA joined NEI in 2021.
“NEI plays an important role in helping to shape policy for the nuclear industry,” shared Mary Neumayr, UUSA’s Director of Government Affairs. “Through our membership, UUSA is able to share our specific expertise to help support NEI’s efforts.”
The representatives from NEI were able to take a comprehensive tour of the UUSA facility, from the assay halls to the projected sites of UUSA’s future strategic builds. They also visited the Career and Technical Education Center (CTECH) in Hobbs.
Karen Fili, UUSA’s President and CEO, shared: “I’m certain that this visit will help showcase UUSA’s unique value to the nuclear industry and highlight some of the strategic projects we’re working towards to provide support for the nuclear sector.”
