EUNICE, N.M. – Over the past three weeks, employee volunteers from Urenco USA gave of their time to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 through community service projects in both Eunice and Hobbs, NM, for the company’s 17th annual 9/11 Day of Service.

In Hobbs, the projects included painting, deep cleaning, repairing, and landscaping the property of a beloved member of their Urenco USA work family who is also a client of Leaders Inc, an organization that supports adults with disabilities in Lea County. Additionally, volunteers conducted a major garage cleanout project for Option Inc., a nonprofit organization in Lea County providing shelter and assistance to victims of domestic violence. Also at Option Inc., the team helped them realize their dream of having a medical/relaxation room in their shelter, providing brand-new furniture and organization for their family rooms and living spaces.

On their Facebook page, Option Inc. thanked Urenco USA for their generous support, “Last week, we were reminded just how powerful community can be.” They shared, “Moments like this remind us that we are not doing this work alone. We are surrounded by neighbors, businesses, and friends who truly believe in our mission and want to make a difference right alongside us.”

In Eunice, Urenco USA sponsored a project to provide a fresh coat of paint to the Eunice Police Department, a valued partner of our uranium enrichment facility, who plays a crucial role in keeping the community safe and secure.

“Each year, Urenco USA employees and their families look forward to participating and making a difference in our community,” said Lisa Hardison, Urenco USA’s Community Relations Director. “This began many years ago as a grassroots project by just a few employees and has grown to be our largest annual community service project with more than 300 employee and their families volunteering.”

This year, several local companies and organizations helped support the projects, including the Higginbotham Barlett Co. in Lovington, The Rock Center, Zia Park Casino, PB Concrete, Ramirez and Sons, J&J Rentals, Miller Waldrop, United Rentals, A1 Plumbing Works, and Temple Baptist Church. Urenco USA looks forward to continuing its annual 9/11 Days of Service for many years to come.
