Summary of Responsibilities

Technician III will provide on the job assistance to junior level technicians and are expected to assist in the organization of, and take lead in intermediate/complex level work activities under occasional direct supervision in accordance with approved plant procedures, and work plans. This is an advanced level position, requiring an advanced understanding of safe work practices, and high proficiency in all aspects of commercial/industrial HVAC/R troubleshooting, and maintenance, as related to HVAC-R process, and comfort cooling equipment.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Years of experience: 5 to 6 years of progressive experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Associates Degree (Journeyman’s license or two (2) year Vocational School)
  • Years of experience: 7 to 8 years of progressive experience

Essential Skills:
  • Advanced level Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Strong understanding AC and DC electrical principles and components
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Advanced level Proficiency in maintaining and repairing commercial/industrial process HVAC, low temperature chillers, and air cooled chillers, and their related control systems.
  • Proficient in HVAC BAS and logic builder maintenance such as Automated logic with WebCTRL
  • understanding of HVAC industry best practices, and recommends maintenance plan improvements for critical systems.
  • Skilled in advanced level troubleshooting, analysis, and system optimization techniques
  • Advanced-level Proficiency in all aspects of refrigeration and HVAC systems both electrical, and mechanical.
  • Advanced knowledge of heating, cooling, air distribution, and maintenance theory  principles.

Physical Job Demands:
  • This job operates in an industrial, chemical and radiological plant environment. There is frequent walking, bending, standing, lifting of loads up to 100 pounds and climbing stairs throughout the plant following safety procedures.
  • This position will require working indoors and outdoors at all temperatures.
  • This position may require the employee to walk long distances (up to 3 miles) throughout the day, and stand for periods of up to 4 hours.
  • The employee must possess the physical ability necessary to perform nuclear materials work. This includes:
  • The ability to wear appropriate PPE for assigned tasks.
  • Manual dexterity necessary to correctly maintain and repair plant equipment.
  • Visual acuity necessary to inspect plant equipment for leaks and other visible flaws.

  • Some travel required, < 5%
  • Must possess CAA Access and an NRC L clearance
  • Work Environment: Mixture of office and plant areas, and year round outdoor work. Dose expectations of < 100 mrem/yr.

Primary Functions
  • Perform HVAC-R equipment preventative, corrective and troubleshooting activities on both Process and Comfort cooling systems.  Repair and maintain all equipment in accordance with plant procedures showing strict personal adherence to, and ensure co-workers compliance to, URENCO's policies regarding safety, maintenance, operations, and procedural compliance.
  • Provides specialized technical expertise and guidance to other technicians.
  • Collaborates with management, vendors, and contractors to coordinate resources and resolve complex issues as related to HVAC and/or process refrigeration systems.
  • Guide junior technicians in order complete qualifications, and maintain continuous learning and skills development.
  • Collaborates with management, engineering teams, and project personnel to support equipment reliability and obsolescence management.
  • Assist Planners in the creation of work orders.  Provide input to, and track updates to procedures to ensure they are accurate, safe and workable.  Identify and review improvements within work orders.
  • Complete documentation of work assignments in a real time manner to aid in the configuration management of the facility.
  • Attain and maintain qualifications for a Senior Craft position through timely participation in  training in accordance with UUSA maintenance training program.  Complete field on the job training (OJT) and qualifications required in related system operations, theory, and component specific training to maintain proficiency. 
  • Performs interim supervisory duties as directed or in the absence of direct supervision, or Lead Refrigeration Technician.
  • Attend and/or conduct pre-job briefs. conduct job hazard analysis for work that is to be performed.
  • Attend meetings to freely discuss issues and share relevant operational experiences.  Provide solutions and address any safety concerns prior to commencing work or evolutions.
  • Effectively communicate an on-going status of work and address concerns to supervision. Immediately report defects, deficiencies, or anomalies within the facility to supervision and follow the corrective action protocol as directed by maintenance supervision.
  • Maintain fitness for duty. Responsible for responding to emergent work actions deemed necessary to maintain plant production or safety per the Shift Manager. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
