Urenco USA’s Sixteenth Annual 9/11 Day of Service: Over the past week, voluteers from Urenco USA (UUSA) gave of their time to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 through community service projects in both Eunice and Hobbs, NM. Projects began on Friday, September 6 and will continue through the end of the month for UUSA's 16th annual 9/11 Day of Service.
In Hobbs, the projects include painting, deep cleaning, repairing, and landscaping for a Habitat for Humanity home that was recently vacated in preparation for a new occupant. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization that has built 59 homes in Hobbs and just started the first three of fourteen more adjacent to Mills Elementary. They are helping to provide affordable housing to families in need of a home.
In addition, UUSA will work to provide new furniture, organization and a fresh coat of paint at Isaiah's Kitchen. Isaiah's Kitchen is a non-profit organization operating since 1992 that provides meals for those in need in the Lea County community. Lastly, in Eunice, UUSA employees and their families will help establish a qualifying range for the Eunice Police Department and install shade structures for the first reponders. This range will be used to complete firearms safety training and serve to help them maintain their marksmanship skills.
"UUSA emplooyees look forward to participaing in the event each year and making a difference in our community," said Lisa Hardison, Head of Communications and Public Relations, "This began as a grassroots project by a few employees in 2008 and has evolved to a participation of nearly 300 emplyoees and their family members for UUSA's largest annual community service project of the year."
